CAMP WHAT IF @ HOME-DAY 9
You have completed your quest of exploration, and you a ready for your next quest.
Now, you must conquer the quest of ideation as you continue your journey to launch your great ideas for your community into reality.
To help you create your ideas, we will be learning about Design Thinking. Design thinking is a way of solving a problem using empathy and creativity. This method is used by designers all over the world to help them solve complex problems and create solutions that meet people’s needs, but it can also be used by middle schoolers too!
Your mission is to create an idea explosion!
Check out today’s Adventure Plan and join us on the video call!
BIG QUESTION OF THE DAY
What are some of the best things ever invented?
What If… the ideas in your imagination could become real?
CAMP WHAT IF PLEDGE
I will be curious because curiosity open windows. I will ask questions!
I will be a co-hero because I am a part of a team. Together, we will be co-learners, co-explorers, and co-creators. I promise not to follow the counselors lead! I will follow my imagination!
I will give respect. I will respect people, technology, myself and our ideas!
I will engage my “What if…” powers. This week, I will SQUINT. I will not SQUELCH!
Would you rather… have a rewind button or a pause button on your life?
Share your origin story. Share a high, a low, a funny funky story, or an unbelievable unpopular opinion!
Now that you have explored your community, it is time to accept an even greater quest. Your ultimate challenge is to create an idea that put empathy and imagination in action to better your community.
Let’s play… Best Worst Idea! Great ideas need to be:
- Needed and wanted
- New or better
- Able to be Done
When only 2 of these things are true, the ideas get a little awkward.
For example, what if… your toilet just drained all the poop from your toilet into your basement so you can keep it! Let’s see, that idea is new and that idea is able to be done, BUT nobody wants that idea!
Let’s hear your BEST WORST IDEAS!
- What or who have you learned about so far that inspires an idea?
- What could we make better, fix, or improve?
- What could we invent?
- What club, team, or group could we start or make?
- YOUNGER: What if we _________ to help younger kids.
- OLDER: What if we _________to help older people.
- US: What if we ________ to help other middle schoolers?
- OTHER: What if we_______to help animals/nature?
Let’s find the ideas you love!
Share what ideas you love, what ideas you have seen before, and what ideas you have questions about before we select our project ideas!
As we narrow our ideas into our favorite 5, help us be sharing your thoughts about the ideas we have so far!
Share what you have learned from your exploration journey and tell us what ideas you liked the best!
Hero challenges are your chance to test your super-powers by completing these hands-on, creative super challenges and sharing your results with us. Hero Challenge #2 – Clean-Up Challenge
You are the hero we need! Grab your gloves, facemask, and trash bag and go out to clean your neighborhood (Make sure your family knows you’re doing this! Better yet, take them with you and have some quality time with the folks in your home). Send us a short video of your journey (making a TikTok video is acceptable too!) or a picture of your filled-up garbage bag to receive your points.
